Exterior 450 is fortified with UV absorbers to help stabilize the finish when exposed to sunlight and contains a built-in mildewcide to retard mold and mildew growth. It can be used as a clear protective coat or as an optional topcoat over General Finishes Milk Paint, making it a versatile choice for both decorative and protective finishing projects.

Important: Exterior 450 is not recommended for use as a deck finish. For outdoor applications, make sure the stain or other coating underneath is also specifically rated for exterior exposure.

Application Guidelines

For best results, apply Exterior 450 with a quality brush or HVLP sprayer according to the application requirements of your project. Do not apply when temperatures are below 60°F. Drying time is typically 1 to 2 hours, although actual drying time can vary depending on temperature, humidity, ventilation, and application thickness.

When applying multiple coats, lightly sand between coats using 320-grit or finer sandpaper to promote a smooth, professional finish. Always allow the previous coat to dry adequately before recoating.

Surface Compatibility

Exterior 450 can be used over most water-based and solvent-based stains. Because compatibility can vary depending on the underlying coating and surface conditions, test the finish on a small, hidden area before completing the entire project.

For exterior applications, verify that the stain or coating underneath is also rated for outdoor exposure. Exterior 450 is intended primarily for vertical surfaces and should not be used as a deck finish.
