Wooden Plugs
Mushroom Button Plugs
These button plugs are slightly tapered to ensure a tight fit. When fully seated, the domed head will protrude above the wood surface. The grain runs in the direction of the plug thickness, as if it were cut from a dowel. Tenon is 1/8 in.L with a 2° taper.
Face-Grain Furniture Plugs
When a finished appearance is important, the flat-grain orientation of these plugs will allow you to match the grain and disguise the unwanted screw hole, if you select grain pattern and color carefully. These plugs also avoid the darkening effect experienced when finishing end-grain plugs. Length is 1/4 in. with a 2° taper.
End-Grain Furniture Plugs
Often used for decorative effect, since the end-grain orientation of these plugs absorb stain or finish more readily than flat grain, resulting in a darker highlight. Of course, they are also perfect for plugging end-grain screw holes! Length is 1/4 in. with a 2° taper.
