Wood Dust Exposure has been associated with a variety of adverse health effects for a long period of time, including conditions like dermatitis, allergic respiratory effects, mucosal, and nonallergic respiratory effects and yes, even cancer. We all know about California’s Proposition 65 (Prop 65), you just look all over our web site and others and the warnings are all there.
WARNING: Drilling, sawing, sanding or machining wood products can expose you to wood dust, a substance known to the State of California to cause cancer. Avoid inhaling wood dust or use a dust mask or other safeguards for personal protection. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov/wood.
While these are general cautions and warnings and the CDC/NIOSH have not enforced standards since 1989, many woodworkers are toxic or allergic reactions to certain kinds of woods and chemicals used in various stages of doing what we enjoying doing with wood.
We at McFeely’s want you to be safe and protect yourself while enjoying your passion for woodworking.
