Finally, A Countersink Designed for Trim Head Screws
Trim head screws are great for installing trim moldings in softwoods, but generally require pre-drilling in hardwoods to avoid splitting, or worse yet, stripping of the recess. Standard countersinks either have too large a countersink or too small a pilot bit. The result is an oversized head hole that requires excessive filling, or a pilot hole that isn't big enough to clear the screw threads.
Our trim-head countersink drills a 1/8 inch clearance hole and has a 1/4 in. diameter countersink that fits most trim head screws perfectly.
You will need to eye-ball the depth. On countersinks this small, the use of a stop collar prevents wood chips from clearing, leading to heat build up, which can prematurely dull the edge on the countersink.
