Ideal for Cabinet Refinishing

General Finishes Gel products are popular for cabinet refinishing because their heavy-bodied formula is easier to control than thinner liquid finishes. Gel products combine pigments, oils, and urethanes to create an attractive, durable finish with a distinctive hand-rubbed appearance.

When using Gel Stain beneath the topcoat, apply light, even coats and typically allow 2 to 3 coats of stain as needed to achieve the desired color and coverage. Allow the stain to dry thoroughly between coats before applying the protective topcoat.

Excellent Control on Vertical Surfaces

The thick consistency of Gel Satin Topcoat makes it particularly well suited for vertical surfaces where thinner finishes can be prone to running or dripping. It offers excellent adhesion on raw wood, previously finished surfaces, fiberglass, and steel doors, making it a versatile choice for both woodworking and refinishing applications.

Application and Drying

For best results, apply the topcoat in very thin, even coats. Gel Stain typically dries to the touch in 4 to 6 hours, with recoating generally possible after 24 to 48 hours depending on temperature and humidity. Always allow the underlying finish to dry thoroughly before applying additional coats.

When applying a final topcoat over Gel Stain, allow approximately 24 to 48 hours of drying time before using an oil-based topcoat or approximately 72 hours before applying a water-based topcoat. Actual drying and recoating times can vary with temperature, humidity, ventilation, and application thickness.
