Its gloss finish enhances the natural appearance of wood while creating a protective barrier against everyday outdoor exposure.

Exterior 450 is ideal for applications such as fences, patio furniture, garage doors, entrance doors, and interior windows. The finish is fortified with UV absorbers to help stabilize the coating when exposed to sunlight, while its built-in mildewcide helps retard the growth of mold and mildew.

Use Exterior 450 as a standalone clear coat or as an optional protective topcoat over General Finishes Milk Paint. For outdoor projects, always ensure that the underlying stain or coating is specifically rated for exterior exposure.

Application Guidelines

For best results, apply Exterior 450 only when temperatures are at least 60°F. The finish can be applied by brush or HVLP sprayer. Allow each coat to dry thoroughly before applying additional coats. Drying time is typically 1 to 2 hours, although temperature, humidity, airflow, and application thickness can affect drying time.

When applying multiple coats, lightly sand between coats using 320-grit or finer sandpaper. Remove all sanding residue before applying the next coat to promote a smooth, even finish.

Surface Compatibility

Exterior 450 can be used over most water-based and solvent-based stains, but compatibility should always be verified before coating the entire project. Test the finish on a small, hidden area to confirm adhesion, appearance, and compatibility with the existing coating.

For outdoor applications, make sure the stain or finish underneath is also specifically rated for exterior exposure. Exterior 450 is not recommended for use as a deck finish.

Easy Cleanup

After application, clean brushes, spraying equipment, and other tools with soap and water according to the equipment manufacturer's cleaning recommendations.
