Stains

Gel Stains are formulated with a combination of pigments, oils (yes these are oil-based products), and urethanes to produce a durable and beautiful "hand-rubbed" finish.   Gel Stains are heavy-bodied (translated as thick – less likely to run and drip all over the place) and so do not penetrate as deeply into the wood as liquid oil base stains do.

Water Based Dye and Wood Stain can be used as standalone colors or can be mixed for custom colors.   Dye stains penetrate deep into the wood to enhance the wood grain and produce vibrant colors.   Wood Stain Glaze Effects are translucent colors used to create decorative finishes and are ideal for distressing, marble, shabby chic, color washing, and rag-rolling effects.    Use over milk paint for special effects.

The GF Stain Blocker works - not just some of the time, but all of the time.   It's not expensive, but neither is your time to keep re-doing what didn't work the last time.   It can be used on existing finishes, raw wood, or MDF as a base coat for milk, chalk, and pigmented polys.

Outdoor Oil

General Finishes Outdoor Oil is an exterior-rated penetrating oil, a wood maintenance preservative.   It contains UV stabilizers, mildew prohibitions, and twice the oil in competing brands.   Use Outdoor Oil for all exterior outdoor wood projects, particularly wood furniture.   It can be used by itself, over any stain, and on pressure-treated wood.   NOTE: Outdoor Oil may not adhere to extremely oily exotic woods.
