Metal lath screws with a self-drilling point are designed to penetrate metal without the need for a separate pilot hole. Their wide, low-profile washer head provides a broad bearing surface, making them well suited for fastening metal lath, corrugated panels, and similar materials to steel studs.
The self-drilling tip cuts through the steel first, and the screw threads then tap into the material to create a secure hold. For best results, use a slower RPM and allow the drill point time to cut through the steel before the threads begin to engage.
Self-drilling and self-tapping screws must be matched to the thickness of the material being fastened. The drill point must fully penetrate the combined material thickness before the threads begin tapping. If tapping starts before the point has passed completely through the material, the screw may cross-thread, strip the threads, or stall during installation.
The clear zinc finish provides a bright silver appearance and a moderate level of corrosion resistance. Because zinc is electroplated directly onto the steel, the coating forms a durable protective layer on the screw surface.
