The undercut head is a variation of the standard flat head. The difference is that the countersink under the head does not extend down to the shank at an angle. The countersink is cut parallel to the top of the head towards the shank. This provides a small bearing surface.
This is used on the thinner gauge drawer slides so that the screw will seat better in the slide. It can also be used on metal parts with a small bearing surface at the base of the screw hole. Be aware that any time you "cut" steel from any part of the thread or head, you produce a weaker screw. By their nature, wood fibers can deflect the screw as it penetrates the wood, causing the head to seat at an angle. If this happens with a weakened head, such as an undercut, the head can be more likely to break off.
Zinc Plating: The silver appearance of Clear Zinc has been around for many years and remains very popular. It also provides moderate rust protection. Since this is true electroplating, the zinc coating is part of the steel's surface and is highly durable. Other chemicals can be added to the process, and the depth of the coating can be controlled.
It is advisable to use a self-centering bit such as our #MS-5107 (7/64" drill) just to make sure everything is nicely aligned.
