Diablo's premium 5-in. 220-grit universal 12-hole random orbital sanding discs deliver fast, consistent sanding performance with long-lasting ceramic abrasive technology. Designed with a universal hole pattern and Hook & Lock™ backing, these sanding discs provide quick alignment, secure attachment and compatibility with a wide range of 5-in. and 8-hole random orbital sanders.
These 220-grit ceramic sanding discs are engineered for demanding sanding applications where efficient material removal and durability are important. The premium ceramic grain blend cuts quickly while maintaining a long working life, making these discs well suited for leveling, shaping, stripping and other sanding tasks.
Clog-SHIELD™ technology helps minimize loading by reducing the buildup of sanding debris on the abrasive surface. Combined with Diablo's ENDURA-BOND™ grain bonding system, the discs provide durable performance and help maximize the usable life of each sanding disc.
220-grit ceramic sanding discs are ideal for fast leveling, shaping, heavy material removal, stripping and surface preparation. They are suitable for a variety of woodworking, metalworking and plastic-sanding applications.
Suggested Projects: Paint refinishing, deck surface preparation and reconditioning, floor refinishing, wood furniture building and refinishing, and general project construction.
Ceramic abrasives are manufactured through a chemical bonding process that combines bauxite with other materials to create a highly durable abrasive grain. Ceramic grain is available in different formulations, including ceramic AO, ceramic AZ and full-ratio ceramic. The percentage and formulation of ceramic material affect abrasive strength, performance and cost.
Ceramic abrasives were originally developed for aggressive grinding applications, particularly on metal, but their high-performance characteristics make them useful for a wide range of sanding applications. They are especially valuable in grits used for material removal, dimensioning and other demanding sanding operations.
Natural abrasive grain colors can vary by grain type. Aluminum oxide (AO) may appear brown, pink or white; silicon carbide (SC) is typically black; ceramic AZ may appear blue or blue-gray; and ceramic grain is commonly white.
Grain color should not be used as the sole method of identifying an abrasive type. Manufacturers can add dyes to the size coat to produce different colors, while stearates and lubricants can also affect the appearance of the abrasive. For the best results, select an abrasive based on the material being sanded, the desired finish and the sanding equipment being used.
