General Finishes Wood Bowl Finish is a durable, oil-and-urethane, oil-based finish specially formulated for decorative wooden bowls, turnings, and other wood projects where a beautiful appearance and dependable protection are desired. The finish enhances the natural character of wood while providing a durable protective surface.
Wood Bowl Finish is a PFAS-free coating. General Finishes is committed to creating a cleaner and healthier environment, and all future product development will be free of "forever chemicals."
Important: For countertops that are actively used for chopping or cutting, General Finishes recommends Butcher Block Oil instead of Wood Bowl Finish.
Wood Bowl Finish was previously called Salad Bowl Finish.
Wood Bowl Finish is an excellent choice for decorative wooden bowls, turned vessels, wood turnings, and similar projects where a durable oil-based protective finish is desired. Its oil-and-urethane formulation helps provide a rich, attractive finish while protecting the wood surface from everyday handling and use.
Always provide adequate ventilation while applying the finish. Follow all applicable safety precautions and product-label instructions.
Stir the finish thoroughly to reincorporate solids that may have settled to the bottom of the container. Urethane topcoats are thin, and the flatting agents used to create lower sheens can settle quickly. Stir and decant only the amount needed for immediate use, or stir frequently throughout the application process.
Make sure the wood is clean and completely dry before applying Wood Bowl Finish. The finish can be applied over properly prepared raw or stained wood.
If needed for application, Wood Bowl Finish may be thinned with 10% to 15% mineral spirits.
Apply up to three coats for the recommended level of protection. General Finishes recommends no more than three coats, as additional coats will not improve durability.
For improved smoothness and adhesion, lightly finish-sand between coats using a 220- to 320-grit foam sanding pad.
Thoroughly remove dust before applying the next coat. Dust can be removed with a vacuum, compressed air, tack cloth, or a water-dampened rag.
General Finishes Wood Bowl Finish provides durable protection for decorative wooden bowls, turnings, and similar woodworking projects. For surfaces such as countertops that are actively used for chopping and cutting, use a finish specifically intended for that application, such as General Finishes Butcher Block Oil.
