General Finish Stain: Colonial Maple: Pint

Gel Stain from General Finishes is the home of the popular Java Gel Stain featured across the nation's social media for upcycling furniture and cabinets. These heavy-bodied wood stains do not penetrate as deeply as liquid oil-based wipe-on stains, yielding the deepest, richest colors of any oil-based stain.

Everybody knows buying new cabinets can be very expensive. So when you want to look like you have new cabinets but all you want to spend is sweat equity, spruce up your cabinets with Gel Stain. Gel Stains are formulated with pigments, oils (yes, these are oil-based products), and urethanes to produce a durable, beautiful hand-rubbed finish. Gel Stains are heavy-bodied (translated as thick and less likely to run and drip all over the place), and so do not penetrate as deeply into the wood as liquid oil-based stains do. Apply with light, even coats, typically 2-3 coats, then apply a top coat. Let the project dry thoroughly between coats. Dries to touch in 4-6 hours. Wait 24 hours before recoating, depending on temperature and humidity.

This traditional stain gives a rich color on wood surfaces. Apply with a rag or foam brush, then clean up with mineral spirits.

Final topcoat can be applied after 48 hours for oil-based topcoats or 72 hours for water-based topcoats, again, depending on the humidity and temperature. Go from old-fashioned to fabulously fashionable in no time! Available in all the popular colors, go light or dark.
