General Finishes Arm-R-Seal Oil-Based Topcoat is a premium, durable finish formulated with high-quality urethane resins for exceptional protection and long-lasting performance. Designed for woodworking projects where durability, depth, and a rich natural appearance are desired, Arm-R-Seal enhances the beauty of hardwood while providing a tough protective surface.
This ambering oil-based finish is ideal for bringing out the natural character of woods such as walnut, mahogany, cherry, oak, and other hardwoods. As it ages, Arm-R-Seal develops a warm amber tone that can add depth and richness to the finished project while maintaining its attractive satin appearance.
Arm-R-Seal is formulated for convenient hand application using a clean cloth or foam brush. Its low viscosity allows the finish to flow smoothly across the surface, making it easy to achieve an even protective coating without complicated application equipment.
For best results, apply thin, even coats and allow adequate drying time between applications. Lightly sanding between coats, when appropriate, can help create an exceptionally smooth final surface.
Arm-R-Seal can be sprayed successfully, although General Finishes recommends hand application because it is easy to apply too much product in one area when spraying. If spraying is preferred, use very thin coats and carefully monitor the surface for runs, drips, or areas where the finish begins to build excessively.
If a run develops, immediately wipe or brush it out while the finish is still wet. Correcting a run promptly can help prevent visible marks. Dried runs can be considerably more difficult to remove and may require additional surface preparation.
Arm-R-Seal rarely requires thinning because of its relatively low viscosity. However, when necessary, it can be thinned with up to 10% mineral spirits. Avoid excessive thinning, as adding too much solvent can reduce the solids content and alter the finish's application and performance characteristics.
Thinned Arm-R-Seal will have a more diluted consistency but can be stored without the risk of separation associated with some finishes.
Arm-R-Seal is an excellent choice for furniture, cabinetry, doors, tables, woodworking projects, and other interior wood surfaces where a durable oil-based protective finish is desired. Its urethane-resin formulation provides dependable protection while allowing the natural grain and character of the wood to remain visible.
The satin sheen provides a refined, low-luster appearance that complements both traditional and contemporary woodworking projects. The oil-based formulation also enhances the visual depth of the wood, creating the warm, natural appearance prized by furniture makers and woodworkers.
General Finishes Arm-R-Seal is well suited for interior woodworking projects, including furniture, tables, cabinets, doors, decorative woodwork, and other projects requiring a durable protective topcoat with a warm, natural appearance.
