CMT Panel Pilot Bit with Guide – 3/8 in. Diameter – 1/4 in. Shank

How much time do you spend making openings in paneling, drywall, siding, doors, or windows? With the CMT Panel Pilot Bit, the job becomes faster and easier. The pilot point plunges smoothly into the material, while the carbide cutting edges deliver clean, fast cuts. The result is accurate openings with less effort and reduced cutting time. This bit is also ideal for trimming Formica®, veneer, and other laminate materials.

Safety Tips: Always use extra caution when working near electrical outlets and boxes. Disconnect power before cutting, and make sure the bit does not cut too deeply and contact hidden wiring.

Safety Tips: Always wear a dust mask and eye protection when routing.

Safety Precautions: Never use damaged or worn router bits. Always operate at the recommended feed rate and avoid forcing the bit. Take extra care when making the initial cut with small diameter bits. For best results, make cuts in multiple passes when using smaller diameter bits.

How CMT Produces High-Quality Router Bits

  • Turning, Milling, and Cutting: CMT continually invests in advanced manufacturing technology. Fully automated CNC machinery, operated by specially trained technicians, ensures router bit shanks and bodies are manufactured with exceptional accuracy and balance.
  • Heat Forged Steel Bodies for Large Diameter Bits: Larger diameter router bits require additional manufacturing steps. Heat forging creates a radial grain structure in the steel, providing increased strength, durability, and reliability during demanding applications.
  • Brazing: CMT has pioneered advanced brazing techniques. Custom-designed computerized brazing equipment eliminates inconsistencies found in traditional hand brazing. The silver-copper-silver brazing sandwich creates a strong bond between the steel body and carbide tips while providing shock absorption to protect the carbide during tough cutting operations.
  • Specially Formulated Carbide for Specific Applications: Different woodworking materials require different cutting characteristics. CMT develops carbide formulations specifically suited for each application, ranging from ultra-hard carbide for demanding laminate cutting to more impact-resistant grades for large profile bits.
  • Grinding and Sharpening: The final production stage uses multi-axis CNC grinding technology to achieve precise cutting edges. Each bevel and angle is sharpened to exact tolerances, creating router bits that deliver both exceptional sharpness and long-lasting durability.
