Kreg Stainless Screws are specially designed for maritime applications, excessive exposure to water, and other exceedingly corrosive environments, such as ACQ-treated lumber.

If you are looking for the best in rust-prevention, this is your solution.

Stainless Steel: No discussion of corrosion resistance would be complete without mention of stainless steel screws. Although all products corrode eventually, stainless steel continues to provide excellent protection. Since the carbon content of stainless steel is quite low, oxidation (rusting) is also quite low. However, because the carbon content is low, the steel cannot be heat-treated to an adequate level. As a result, the screws are soft and prone to breaking in wood applications that require high torque. Pre-drilling all screw holes and using larger gauges of screws can compensate for this problem.

The Nickel used in manufacturing stainless steel makes them non-magnetic and will not hold a magnetic bit.

The Type 17 point is not a thread style but can enhance the performance qualities of most thread styles used in the woodworking industry. A slot or notch is cut at the point of the screw, which acts like an auger or drilling tip. The slot carves away material, allowing it to self-drill into most types of wood. In many cases, it eliminates the need for a pre-drilled hole to prevent splitting. The Type 17 point is excellent for hardwoods, softwoods, particleboard, and especially MDF.

Robertson® Square Drive has a more positive fit that reduces "cam out" and requires only 4 foot pounds of pressure to keep the bit engaged. An early attempt to introduce these Square Recess Screws into the United States failed, so they were confined to the Canadian Market until the 1970s. The Phillips Head was introduced in the 1930s and would cam out instead of being over-torqued by the new power drivers of the time.

FEATURES:

  • 305 Stainless Steel
  • A self-drilling auger point.
  • Coarse Threads
  • Robertson Square Drive for non-slip bit engagement.

Use a clutch-equipped drill to avoid the disaster of over-tightening.
