Flat head machine screws have a standard 82 degree countersink design similar to that used on our Square Drive Production wood screws.
Machine screws are uniform in diameter the entire length of the shaft as opposed to Traditional or Production Wood Screw which have a pointed tip.
Machine screws are a combination of a small bolt and a screw, usually fasten metal to metal or plastic. Common uses in the home or shop is to fasten electrical components, such as attaching a light switch or outlet to an electrical box. In that application, machine screws are turned into a hole in which matching threads are cut, or "tapped. "If the hole is not tapped, the machine screw will require a nut. They are also used to fasten cover plates to machine components appliances and more.
Square-Phillips Recess or Combo Drive offers the positive fit of Square/ Robertson® recess with the after-market serviceability of Phillips drive. A square bit is used to insert the screw and a Phillips driver can be used to remove the screw at the after-market level. Like the square drive, the Combo drive requires a minimum amount of pressure (appx. 4.5 foot pounds) to keep the bit engaged in the head. This reduces the possibility of carpal-tunnel syndrome for workers that drive screws all clay long on a production line.
Zinc Plating: The silver appearance of Clear Zinc has been around for many years and remains very popular. It also provides a moderate level of rust protection. Since this is a true electroplating, the zinc coating is part of the surface of the steel and very durable. Other chemicals can be added to the process and the depth of the coating can be controlled.
