Great for use with pressure-treated wood, or premium materials like Redwood and Western Red Cedar, because they are truly self-drilling. Passivated type 305 stainless steel provides even more corrosion resistance than the usual type 304 stainless (a bit of extra nickel really helps).

The silver appearance of Clear Zinc has been around for a long time. It is similar to stainless steel and remains very popular because of the price vs stainless. Zinc only provides moderate rust protection. They might look the same, but do not pick zinc when you want stainless steel.

Deep Thread: Characterized by a reduced diameter shank resulting in a deep thread profile. A single lead thread, meaning that one revolution advances the screw one pitch. (Pitch is equal to 1 divided by the number of threads per inch. For a screw with 10 threads per in., one revolution will advance the screw 1/1O in. into the wood.)

The deep thread form provides superior resistance to pull-out. This design feature is commonly called a Lo-Root® or Production Screw.

The Type 17 point is not a thread style but can enhance the performance qualities of most thread styles used in the woodworking industry. A slot or notch is cut at the tip of the screw, which acts like an auger or drill tip. The slot carves away the material, thus allowing it to self-drill itself into most types of wood. In many cases, it eliminates the need for a pre-drilled hole to prevent splitting. The Type 17 point is excellent for hardwoods, softwoods, particleboard, and especially MDF.

The shallow, #1 recess of Trim screws requires caution to avoid cam-out - pilot holes are recommended in most materials.
