McFeely's® Hardwood Dowels

McFeely's dowels come from the Appalachian area. They are dried for months in a yard then kiln-dried.

SAFE-STORAGE REQUIREMENTS:

• Dowels should be stored in a stable humidity-controlled environment. Dowels stored in unstable environments can become misshapen.
• Hardwoods such as beech and poplar are the most popular Dowels because they are reliably strong, Hickory is one of the more expensive and strongest dowels.
• Preparing the dowel for a finish is a light sanding.
• Dowels can be stained, going with the grain using a rag, making sure you wipe an any excess.
• Dowels can be painted, use several thin coats instead of a single thick one and rotate the dowel a quarter turn every few minutes as it dries. It takes time to keep the paint from running
• Long and short dowels are glued in most of the time, the dowel should be hand tight not needing a hammer to go in and can be removed by hand. Fluted dowels, commonly found on smaller dowels used in joints, is to removed the air, so the glue cover the dowel, they are also fluted for easy installation. Long dowels are used for so many different projects that they do not have either of these features.
• In order to prevent shipping damage, package sizes cannot be changed.
