SPAX PowerLags offers the industry's largest selection of code-recognized structural wood-to-wood fasteners. Featuring SPAX patented thread technology, they require no pre-drilling and drive faster and easier than conventional lags and other structural screws
Washer head: The washer-like head of the screw enlarges the contact surface on the workpiece, thus guaranteeing considerably higher tightening torques compared to a countersunk screw. The SPAX washer head enables better tightening of joints between pieces of wood. The washer head is available for SPAX screws with an outer thread diameter of 5.0 mm.
Yellow Zinc refers to the plating process where the color of the chromate is applied after zinc has been deposited onto the surface of the part. Yellow chromate adds a layer that prevents the zinc from corroding, increasing the overall protection of the finish. Yellow Zinc has a rainbow or iridescent appearance with dominant yellow tones.
Torx is a patented brand name for a six-pointed drive pattern developed in 1967 by Camcar Textronic. The Generic name Start Drive is commonly used instead of the Trade Marked Torx to identify the six-lobed drive system. Other companies have branded their particular six-lobbed drive system, like Spax, which has a T-Star and T-Star Plus. By design, the six-lobbed drive resists Cam-Out better than Phillips (Phillips is designed to Cam-Out to prevent over-torquing) and slotted head screws.
Sizes are numbered, starting with a "T-" and ranging from 1 to 100. Starting with T-1 to T-10, they step up by increments of 1. From T-10 to T-45, they step up in increments of 5; from T-50 to T100, they step up in increments of 10.
SPAX® T-STAR® The driving surfaces of the T-STAR force application are arranged in the shape of a star and run vertically, simplifying tool insertion and ensuring a firm grip. This force application shape puts an end to the cam-out effect. The contact force during fastening is reduced to a minimum, and high torques can be transmitted to the screw without damaging it or the tool.
SPAX® 4CUT® point: The 4CUT® point enables fastening without pre-drilling (depending on the wood). This is achieved through its special screw tip. The arrow shape pushes through the wood fibers, ensuring a fast grip. This effectively prevents the material from splitting and reduces the insertion moment. For hardwoods, we recommend pre-drilling even when using SPAX with 4CUT.
Deep Thread: Characterized by a reduced diameter shank resulting in a deep thread profile. A single lead thread, meaning that one revolution advances the screw one pitch. (Pitch equals 1 divided by the number of threads per inch. For a screw with 10 threads per in., one revolution will advance the screw 1/1O in. into the wood.)
The deep thread form provides superior resistance to pull-out. This design feature is commonly called a Lo-Root® or Production Screw.
