3/8-16 Galvanized Carriage Bolt
Carriage Bolts are bolts with no drive and machine threads for use with a nut.
Carriage heads are large, smooth, domed heads with a square protrusion under the head to fit into a square iron plate or washer. It can also be driven into the bare timber if the square section can provide enough friction to prevent the bolt from rotating. A low-carbon steel for general use.
Hot dipped galvanized coating is a good corrosion resistance coating.
Torque washers are recommended for softwoods like pressure-treated lumber.
Warning: Do not mix metals like Galvanized and Stainless Steel. The mixing of dissimilar metals will cause Galvanic Corrosion. Please see our information in McFeely's University on Corrosion in Fasteners.
