Aluminum Oxide (AO)
Aluminum Oxide (AO) is produced by combining bauxite and other materials and firing them in an electric furnace. The resulting material is crushed and sifted through progressively finer screens to produce specific grit sizes. The naturally pyramidal shape of the abrasive grain, combined with its inherent strength, provides excellent durability and consistent cutting performance.
As the abrasive is used, the grain gradually wears down, continuing to produce a progressively finer sanding action. Aluminum Oxide is a versatile general-purpose abrasive suitable for bare wood, most metals, particularly steel, leather, and a wide variety of other materials.
Heavy F-Weight Paper Backing
Paper abrasive backings are available in various weights, designated from A through F, with F being the heaviest. Heavyweight F-paper provides increased durability for demanding power-sanding applications while maintaining the flexibility needed for use with sanding discs.
Paper-backed abrasives are particularly well-suited for producing a fine finish when used with finer grits. The backing provides a cost-effective alternative to cloth in applications where flexibility and extreme durability are not the primary requirements.
