Developed in a high production woodworking shop, PocketMax screws combine self-drilling points, deep sharp threads, and heat-treated hardening which provides excellent performance in both hard and soft woods.
With proper pre-drilled depth, Pocket-Max screws will not cross thread the two pieces being joined. Cross threading can cause the two pieces to separate forming a poor joint. PocketMax screws are designed so that the unthreaded portion of the screw's shank spans between the pieces being joined.
Screws used in installing decking or for building outdoor furniture need a special coating to protect them from the elements and the treated wood itself. In 2004 ACQ™ treated wood became the standard in the pressure treated decking industry. It does not contain arsenic like the old CCA TM type wood but is very unfriendly to fasteners as the Copper reacts with bare metal causing the fastener to fail prematurely. NoCorode that offers unequalled protection. It has been tested to achieve over 2000 hours in accelerated salt spray testing in ACQ™ (Alkaline- Copper- Quaternary) treated lumber.
Fillister Head is similar to a Pan head but with greater side height. These screws are known for their high strength, accuracy, quality, and durability. Mainly found in Pocket-Hole Screws. In Pockethole screws, the Head is usually undersized by one size to prevent the head from scraping the walls of the Pockethole. This could cause the screw to not go in straight and create a weak joint.
Deep Thread: Characterized by a reduced diameter shank resulting in a deep thread profile. A single lead thread, meaning that one revolution advances the screw one pitch. (Pitch is equal to 1 divided by the number of threads per inch. For a screw with 10 threads per in., one revolution will advance the screw 1/1O in. into the wood.)
The deep thread form provides superior resistance to pull-out. This design feature is commonly called a Lo-Root® or Production Screw.
The Type 17 point is not a thread style but can enhance the performance qualities of most thread styles used in the woodworking industry. A slot or notch is cut out at the point of the screw that acts like an auger or drilling tip. The slot carves away the material thus allowing it to self-drill itself into most types of wood. In many instances it can eliminate the need for a pre-drilled hold to relieve splitting. The Type 17 point is excellent for hardwoods, softwoods, particleboard and especially MDF.
