In the nation's 242-year history, 1,306,000 men and women have lost their lives in service during periods of wartime.
Another toll that is not reflected in the war causalities is the number of veterans committing suicide after returning home. If you take the number of suicides for veterans estimated at 22 per day, that will give us 142,142 veteran suicides since 9/11/2001. We want to ask you to reach out to veterans of all ages and share the love and passion you have for woodworking in the hopes that it may change a life and prevent a veteran from considering suicide.
Please remember to fly your American Flags at half-staff until Noon on Monday to honor all of those fallen service members and then raise it to full staff.
If you are a veteran and wish to be buried at any of our National Cemeteries, please note that you must file a Pre-Need Burial Eligibility Determination with the Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) implemented the pre-need burial eligibility determination program to assist anyone who would like to know if they are eligible for burial in a VA national cemetery. VA is promoting pre-need eligibility determinations to encourage Veterans and their eligible family members to plan to use VA burial benefits that Veterans have earned through their military service. Planning in advance for a Veteran's or loved one's final resting place can eliminate unnecessary delays and reduce stress on a family at a difficult time. Veteran families will have increased confidence that their loved ones are eligible for burial in a VA national cemetery at their time of need. Please see National Cemetery Administration
In honor of Memorial Day and those who have served and died, we are giving you this Flag Case Plan from Wood Magazine. Please use it to make a great display and honor those who have served.
