Hardwood Dowels

McFeely's Hardwood Dowels

Dowels are all around us, from the joints in your furniture to the railings, curtain rods, and crafts. Some of the fun crafts using longer hardwood dowels might seem like more than you can handle, but when you break it down, the job is detailed but fun.

Projects built with dowels all use the same foundations. The hardest part is always making sure things are lined up. There are cheap and expensive jigs available to help. When doing decorative jobs, we suggest you simply measure and space the holes on each side to hold the dowels. Drill a hole that matches the dowel. Using a Forester bit allows you to get a flat bottom hole that is the same depth each time and is easy to glue up. For a towel rack, wine glass rack, or bird cage wall just make two matching end caps for your dowels, slide in the dowels and attach this to your project, These sections are the walls for a bird cage or the panels in a rack, that get screwed and glued to the frame.
