Comments about 1/4-20 Steel Threaded Inserts:
Since these are solid steel and not casted, they work much better than the threaded inserts sold by most hardware and woodworking stores. I did increase the pilot hole size from the recommended 3/8" to 25/64" when installing in end-grain maple.

Great for adjusting furniture heights on old non-level floors.
Needed a larger drill

I had to use a 25/64" drill instead of the 3/8" in Poplar. The insert wouldn't go in without damaging the surrounding wood when I used the 3/8". Once I used the larger drill, the inserts went right in and hold well.

Rebult an outdoor bench. Used these to reattach the seat and back boards.
