Stainless Steel
There are different grades of lumber and there are different grades of stainless steel. Most people considering stainless steel fasteners are concerned with corrosion resistance, either for marine use (316 stainless is usually recommended) or for general exterior use where long life is desired (the 18-8 grades, i.e. 302, 304, or 305 stainless steel are usually recommended). The corrosion resistance of 302, 304, and 305 stainless steel is very similar, with the primary difference being their workability when manufacturing the fasteners.
