Plylox™ Installation Tech Information
Measure inside each window opening and record the measurements. The recorded height
should be the measured height from top to bottom of the casing or window
opening minus 1/4”. The recorded width should be the measured width
from side to side of the casing or opening minus 1/4”. This will
give 1/8” clearance all the way around. It is a good idea to make
a chart and identify each window with its own designation. Label each
plywood sheet with an appropriate designation after cutting to size
and store both the plywood and identification chart. This will expedite
installation at a later date since this method of storm proofing allows
for reuse of the materials. Place the PLYLOX™ clips on each plywood
cover (if the window is 24” x 24” or smaller, only two PLYLOX™ clips are needed). Each clip should be placed on the edge of the plywood
cover no more than 24 inches apart making certain the tension legs are
facing towards you. Push the plywood covers with the PLYLOX™ tension
legs to the outside firmly into the opening or casing as the case may
be. Installation is now complete.
To remove the plywood sheets, press in on the plywood, place your finger behind
the tension leg and pull the tension leg towards you, working the PLYLOX™ clips
on one side of the plywood sheet. (A screwdriver can be used in lieu
of your finger and often makes the job easier.) As the tension legs are
pulled away from the wood casing or masonry opening, the plywood sheet
comes right out. Carefully remove the plywood sheet from the window.
It is suggested for large plywood sheets that you enlist assistance from
a helper. Remove the PLYLOX™ clips from the plywood sheets and
store all materials and window identity information in a dry place pending
re-use.
Commercial Applications
In commercial applications, Plylox™ works well with
aluminum-framed window casings that are at least 1-1/2” deep. Plylox™ should be
used with 3/4” plywood (CDX grade or better) that is in good condition. Avoid material that has delaminated, is easy to bend, or is badly warped. Measure
the length and width of each window subtracting 1/2” from the width and 1/4” from the height measurement.
Cut the plywood covers for each window. Windows larger than 48” x 96” require two or more sections of plywood. Each section can be hung independently or
can be spliced together. The average window requires
4 clips. Space the clips no more than 36” apart. The thickness
of plywood will vary with humidity. This will cause
the clip to fit differently from time to time. If the fit is loose,
tap on the clip with a hammer to close the opening. If the
fit is tight, then force the clip on by tapping the clip on with
a hammer. Using an allen wrench, firmly tighten the flush set screws, then tighten the set screws on the opposite side 1/2 turn.
You can remove Plylox™ clips quickly and easily. Use the allen wrench to loosen set screws. This releases the Plylox™ clip and the plywood is easily removed.
