When selecting hinges bear in mind that we sell “00” cranking
hinges only. Changes in door overlay are accomplished by changing mounting
plate sizes and by changing the Distance Between Edge (DBE) of the hinge
cup hole. It is important to understand that the terms full overlay, half
overlay etc. are relative terms, not absolute dimensions. They are helpful,
however, in understanding the look of the finished project.
Using the examples
on the previous pages as a guide, decide how much you want your hinges
to overlay the cabinet carcass or whether you want an inset application,
then use the angle chart below to determine the swing of your doors. When
you’ve made your decision, use the hinge overlay table below to select
your hinges and mounting plates. To use the overlay table, look for the
overlay dimension that corresponds to your desired overlay. These dimensions
are highlighted in gray under the different size mounting plates. Remember
to use the shortest plate possible when making your selections. (“00” being
neutral or flat is the shortest plate, and when combined with a “00” cranking hinge, will produce full overlay on a frameless cabinet.)
The (DBE) Distance Between Edge dimension corresponds to the overlay
dimensions under the four plate sizes and represents the distance from
the edge of the hinge cup hole. Add 17.5mm for 35mm hinge cups (or the
hinge cup radius) to this dimension to locate the center of the cup hole
before drilling. It is recommended that you use the metric dimensions when
using “Euro” hardware
because it eliminates the need for mathematical conversions and reduces
possibility of error. For those of you who want to make the conversions
multiply the metric dimensions by .039375 or divide them by 25.4. The
result is the same.
