Get Consistent Spacing Between Deck Boards

Some of the best ideas are the simplest. Instead of guessing or sticking 16d nails between each board, straddle the joist with one of these durable plastic deck spacers and butt the next board tight to it for nice uniform spacing. After fastening each deck board, just pull the DeckIt spacer out using the handy, ergonomic finger holes, and start the process again on the next row. DeckIt deck spacers measure 3/16" thick by 3-1/4" wide and 6-1/2" tall and are used primarily for composite lumber, like Trex®. (For pressure-treated decking or tropical hardwoods use 1/8" Green DeckIt deck spacers.) Your deck will look great, and if you happen to be using composite decking, you’ll have peace of mind knowing your new deck complies with most manufacturers’ deck spacing specifications. Contains five per package. Made in USA.

Comments about 3/16'' DeckIT Deck Spacers:

I decided to use these to help get the deck board spacing uniform. I tied a 3' leash of 5/16" polycord which made it easier to grab and remove after screwing down the deck board.

BIG drawback - they are not designed to work with deck boards laid at 45 degrees - the little notch won't work and they will tend to fall through the deck and onto the ground - the cord helped with that too.
