Until now, though, spiral cut router bits were only available in plunge cut styles, meaning that if you wanted to take a trim cut, you needed to be using a fence or template and guide bushing. These spiral bits are available in up or down-shear, so you can decide which direction the chips exhaust. Downshear is preferred when routing from above because the chips blow away from you, and upshear is preferred when using a router table. When trimming the over-hanging edge of high pressure laminate on a countertop, use a downshear router bit so that the bit won’t “lift” the laminate as it trims. All 4 bits have double bearings for maximum support. Upshear is shown on right, Downshear on left. Made in Italy.
