How often have you carefully matched the grain of the plugs you cut only to find that the hole is a fraction oversize so the glue line makes each plug look like a miniature bulls-eye. "Snug-Plugs" are slightly tapered to compensate for oversize holes and shear the wood fibers while cutting so the plug sides are smooth and free of torn fibers.
