There are many ways to join posts to the beams they support. Most of the common bolted connections involve time consuming joinery that can create gaps and cracks that collect water and promote decay. These heavy duty stainless steel connecting plates are easy to use, require no special joinery skills (other than the ability to swing a hammer and effectively shield the joint from the accumulation of water. The standard Post cap is designed for mid-span connections, wherein the beam extends beyond the post in both directions. It requires (28) 16d x 3-1/2 joist hanger nails (included) for complete fastening of each postcap pair. Standard post caps must be installed in pairs which sandwich the joint in order to perform as designed. Standard post cap connecting plates are made in the USA of 18 gauge, 316 stainless steel.
