Slotted Screw Holes Allow for Wood Movement - Now Cut them with Your Router!
Virtually every book or magazine article that addresses wood movement and furniture construction methods admonishes the reader to use slotted screw holes. Great. How do you make them? I just drill a bunch of holes and clean out the waste with a chisel, but it is a slow process.
CMT’s new Screw Slot Bits provide an easy way to make mounting holes for flat head, round washer head, or pan head screws, using your router. Both bits create a 3/16” diameter pilot slot approximately 1/2” deep that provides clearance for a #8 screw shank. The slot for the head measures 7/16” for the flat head bit, and 1/2” for the round washer head / pan head bit. Made in Italy.
