This new Makita 18v impact driver weighs just 3.3 pounds! Lithium-Ion batteries weigh up to 40% less than Ni-cads or Ni-Mh batteries, and can be charged more than twice as many times before they “expire”. To take advantage of all that power, Makita developed a 4-pole motor that is more efficient than common two pole motors, generating power every 90 degrees of motor rotation instead of every 180 degrees, then they put a computer chip in the battery and charger to optimize charging efficiency.
