This new Makita 7.2v impact driver weighs just 1.17 pounds! Because this is an IMPACT driver, it's powerful enough to drive a 3" deck screw. (I wouldn't recommend it for that use- but it sure is great for mounting hardware etc). Lithium-Ion batteries weigh up to 40% less than Ni-cads or Ni-Mh batteries, and can be charged more than twice as many times before they “expire”. To take advantage of all that power, Makita developed a 4-pole motor that is more efficient than common two pole motors, generating power every 90 degrees of motor rotation instead of every 180 degrees, then they put a computer chip in the battery and charger to optimize charging efficiency.
