Unlike sharpening stones of fixed length, this system uses adhesive backed Silicon Carbide abrasive paper, which you cut to the desired length and attach to a phenolic backer plate. Instead of messy honing oil, a few drops of water keeps the abrasive cutting efficiently. This product will produce an edge.........how much time do you have? The amount of time and abrasive paper used is amazing to get that "edge". The biggest problem is getting the "peal and stick" abrasive paper off the backer plate. It doesn't just peal off. It leaves about 5% to 15% of the sticky paper on the backer plate. I've used it quite alot and it happens every time. Then a lenghty process is required to bring the backer plate to "clean" again so the next "peal and stick" abrasive paper will lay flat on the backer plate. Frustrating! Spend another hundred bucks and get a highly rated electric sharpener or spend $300. $100 on this "peal and stick" system and $200 on an electrtic sharpener, like I did. At least you will have the satisfaction of dropping the "peal and stick" system in the dumpster (or fire!).
