This is a handy shop knowledge based item. Im older school ( 70 old/or/young ) I hate the dual standard that we have to work with. Standard and metric. Someone has made Billions on that one.Ow well,I'm just about done anyway.I think double standards are just confussing. Time consumming and expensive. This tool helps. Who's eye could identifie the difference between an 8-32 and a comperable, Metric. I can't. I have spent multiable decades around this stuff. I can't see the difference. I don't think anyone else can either. So if some genius thinks we have to have dual standards,in our life this tool helps. But it is still time comsumming and costley,I think double standards are ridiculous. But this tool helps.Metal ManTed

Ultra handy thread checking...
from Topeka, KS
After using this to sort / identify a bunch of mixed nuts and bolts, I found a nut that would not fit on any of the gauges. I had bought both standard and metric and everything I had checked up to that point worked perfectly. After going back and forth from gauge to gauge, scratching my head, rubbing my chin...all the usual things, suddenly it dawned on me that it might have been one of the lock nuts I had bought for a turnbuckle....and it was Left Hand Thread...!! No wonder I could not make it work on the Thread Detective...! That is my one and only failure, all the others have worked fine.I really like that this has both male and female thread sizes on each gauge, I have a few others that only measure either nuts...or bolts, but not both. This makes this a very useful tool. I have separated the standard and metric strings and have then hanging on either side of my parts drawers for quick access.
