For those woodworkers who really want to showcase their work, these water based dye stains are just the ticket. They can be used as “stand alone” colors or can be mixed with other water based wood stains for custom colors. Color will vary depending on the type of wood and dwell time before wiping. They dry fast, have low odor and clean up with soap and water. Covers 150 sq. ft. per quart. Do not buff or sand between stain coats. Top with High Performance Top Coat.

Comments about General Finishes Water Based Wood Stains:
I was trying to achieve the look of an older piece and this finish combined with a light coat of yellow dye first accomplished the effect I was looking for.
Dark stain by General Finishes are good.

This was the first time I used General Finishes water based stain. I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of color, excellent penetration, ease of application and easy cleanup. Unlike other water based colorants, this stain did not blotch and it penetrated areas of wood that often resist even staining with waterborne products. Overall a great product that I will use again.

Great Product

This is a great product. Easy to use gel stain that cleans up well. You can control the depth of color by how long you let the stain sit on the wood before you wipe if off. I really like how well it covers and the soap and water clean up. I have used this on windows, stools, dressers and even an old ice box I refinished. I haven't been disappointed yet.
