Product Information

Building decks of man-made materials like Trex® or tropical hardwoods like Pau Lope® or Ipe? Use award-winning Eb-Ty hidden deck fasteners to hold down deck boards and you’ll see nary a screw or nail. Our Eb-Ty deck fasteners now include stainless steel screws with black painted heads, so the deck fastener is almost perfectly hidden!

Installation is easy – everything takes place on the top side. First, use a biscuit joiner to cut slots in each deck board where it crosses a joist. Then apply a thin bead of construction adhesive to the top of the joists. Next, drive a 7 x 2-1/4" long stainless steel trim head screw through the Eb-Ty clip and decking board and into the joist at a 45° angle (there isn’t any need to measure; the clips automatically set the angle). Eb-Ty’s unique design locks everything together like the tongue and groove of a hardwood floor.

Use #1 Square Driver bits: HHS-0120-N #1 x 2" Ball Detent, or a reduced shank driver such as HRS-0110 #1 x 1" Wire Detent or HRS-0120 #1 x 1-15/16" Ball Detent Driver.

Original Eb-Ty hidden deck fasteners work best with dimensionally stable decking materials such as tropical hardwoods from 3/4" to 5/4" thick.

Eb-Ty received the 1998 Construction Innovation Award from the editors of The Journal of Light Construction, has been reviewed in Fine Homebuilding (March 1998) and has appeared on The Learning Channel show, “Men in Tool Belts.”

Made in the USA of UV-resistant polypropylene.

Eb-Ty dimensions:
• Height: 1/2"
• Width: 1"
• Length: 2-3/8"
• Thickness: .140
• Keel Thickness: 3/32

Pre-made Ipe Plugs simplify starter board installation when using Eb-Ty hidden deck fasteners.

Comments about Original Eb-Ty Hidden Deck Fasteners & Screws:

What a nightmare! Installing 5/4 cedar decking on joists 16" on center. Using the plate joiner is tedious and time consuming. Trying to get a tight fit, the screws tended to drive right through the biscuits, and the recommended 45 degree screw angle forced the edge of the biscuits below the slot of the next board. Bending one end of the boards to achieve a uniform gap pushed the screws through the biscuits and altered the spacing on the fastened end. Moreover, the biscuits and screws were clearly visible between the boards, which my client (and I, as well) disliked. After only two courses I could see this was a huge waste of time, got some angle iron, and screwed the whole [*] deck from below. Now I'm stuck with a big box of useless plastic biscuits.

Comments about Original Eb-Ty Hidden Deck Fasteners & Screws:

Used this a few years ago when rebuilding my deck with composite boards and am glad I did. Very nice results with no screws or nails visible or even possible to trip on. Takes some practice to install as first few boards required a lot of fussing. Get a good plunge biscuit cutter and 2 drills, one for pilot hole and one for driving screws. Cutter must be set just right. Don't overdrive screw. Just ordered more to rebuild my porch.

I have used EB-TY clips on multiple IPE deck projects with great success. Care must be taken when machining boards to assure ease of installation. Several decks are now over ten years old and still look great.

cannot get the next board in. We ended up putting two boards together and driving the screw between then them. I have no idea why the tell you to drive the screws on a 45 degree angle.

You told me on the phone that this product would fit and work good for my installtion and it was a nightmare. it would not fit all the way in the grove of the veranda decking so I had to router the grove deeper (I was using 16ft lenghs and the deck was 34 boards out)
