Until this ingenious device came along, there really wasn’t a fast way to find the center of dowels. Center finders, just don’t work well unless the part is at least 3/4" in diameter. Now, with this patented, die cast aluminum tool, you can find the center of dowels as small as 1/4" in diameter. Just place the end of the dowel in the hole (it’s slightly beveled so it even works with out-of-round dowels) and give a light tap. The center is now marked for accurate drilling, or mounting on a lathe. Fits dowel sizes 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, and 1". Made in USA.

I make a lot of spacers for clocks and the holes have to be exactly in the middle of the dowel. There isn't a center finder on the market that works with amaller dowels nearly as well.

I use a lot of dowels in our wood craft busines. I build a lot of items that we sell at craft shows. Finding center helps save a lot of time. I use this tool on wood dowels and wine corks to find center.

I would have to ask why anyone would want to take the time to find the center of a dowel by other means
