Comments about Gallon Semi-Gloss Poly-Ox Polyurethane:
Used on 57-year old oak floors. The prep work was HARD work but the reward was that the finishing was easy, fun and not stress full at all. TIP: Mixed 4-ounces of the "Warm dye toner" to one gallon to produce a beautiful tone. TIP: I removed all of the old finish except for one tiny area in the closet to run a test. I only lightly sanded this area and found that the WB finish adhered very well to whatever the old finish was. You may be able to get away with this scenario and limit your prep work (provided the floor is not too heavily damaged). TIP: I sprayed this on with a 4-stage turbine HVLP. Why? Because I find it fun. I did experience some dry spray on the very last coat which produced a rough patch on one small area of a corner in the room. Luckily since this was not gloss, I was able to go over it with a brown paper bag (folded like sand paper) to smooth and even things out. The floor was in very rough condition after pulling the carpet off: heavily scarred, gouged, full of nail holes from multiple layers of carpet through the years, some nail holes with black oxidation, some water damage and last but not least termite damage! It was a sad sight at first but after finishing up my wife said "Wow!" She truly was amazed. The floor looks and feels beautiful.
