I tried them all and long ones with no flange work the best. The flanged inserts will not go flush with the wood. It left a gap, not good. The slotted inserts I tried all broke along with the drivers to use them and they went in crooked. The driver for this one held it straight and true, no cockeyed inserts. TEST TEST TEST YOUR PILOT HOLES ON SCRAP FIRST. I used 5/16/-21/64-11/32- 23/64 on cabinet grade plywood, MDF, solid red oak, particle board. CHECK FOR SPLITTING. Whatever one works. Different materials call for different pilot holes for a tight fit without splitting the material.

These wood inserts did just what I needed.These are good durable quality. I've used worse inserts that were far too easy to strip out when inserting.
