Manmade wood products like Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF), particle board and flake board have many uses, but attaching hardware to them can be difficult. Threaded inserts are designed to cope with the fine grain structure of these materials. Interrupted knife thread cuts easily yet resists removal. No special bits required to drive them (metric Allen wrenches). They fit American threaded fasteners but are made to metric dimensions rounded up to the nearest 1/64th from metric. Made in the USA.
