Even before you switch it on, you’ll be impressed by the sleek, ergonomic design and convenient, thumb-ready controls of the Festool Rotex 150 FEQ 6” dual mode sander. Look closely and you’ll see a small green button near the sanding pad: push it to change pads without tools! The futuristic cowling above the pad removes easily, and when in place, prevents damage to perpendicular surfaces while sanding! Large bosses on either side of the housing accept the auxiliary handle, which is helpful when sanding aggressively. The sleek Rotex hand-guard is actually the Dust Extraction port, and removes with the push of a green button for improved access in tight quarters.
After the visual inspection, it won’t be easy to resist the urge to attach the “Plug-It” removable cord and fire it up. While you will undoubtably detect some gear noise from the new heavy-duty, double-sealed long-life gear train, you will be amazed by the smoothness in both the Random Orbit and Rotary/Random Orbit modes. Of course, tool-free pad changes make it easy to go from the standard soft pad for coarse or fine sanding on curved and flat surfaces to the optional hard pad for heavy-duty sanding and edge work, or to the supersoft pad for contoured surfaces. Felt and sheepskin pads are available for polishing and buffing. Connect the Festool Rotex sander to an optional Festool dust extractor to capture nearly 100% of all tool-generated particulates. The JetStream dust collection in combination with an optional Festool Dust Extractor extends abrasive life and captures nearly all of the sanding dust to help maintain a clean workplace.
The Festool Rotex 150 FEQ includes a soft sanding pad, auxiliary handle, “Plug-It” cord system, 1 abrasive disk sample, and T-Loc Systainer 2 storage chest.
Common Replacement Parts
Dual-mode Performance. Quick and easy changes from gear-driven, rotary mode to random orbital mode. One tool can cover three different application areas: coarse sanding to fine sanding to polishing.
Detachable Plug-it Power Cord. Use same cord for different Festool sanders. Cord detaches for easy storage and replacement. Convenient 13 foot length means no hang ups.
Edge Protector. The bumper guard allows you to sand up to adjacent surfaces without damaging the work piece or sanding pad. It also prevents the sander from jolting when sanding close to walls and edges.
Detachable Extraction Channel. Channel detaches for cleaning or during polishing mode. Added convenience means more efficient operation so you save time.
Ergonomic Design. Perfect grip position for every situation. Ideal weight for minimal working effort. This results in minimal vibration and low weight for continuous operation.
Enclosed Gear Unit. Prevents dust from entering the gear unit. This dramatically increases the service life of the tool.
Tool-Free FastFix® Pads. Tool-less pad change minimizes set-up time when changing the pad. That means one less tool to keep track of. Each pad features our StickFix (hook-and-loop) abrasive mounting for fast, easy grit changes.
Dust Extraction. Minimizes hazardous dust for a safer work environment. Also helps you keep a clear view of the work piece and save time on cleaning up.

Comments about Festool Rotex 150 FEQ Dual Mode Sander:
I've bought many Festool tools in the past. Admittedly there are a few that I don't often use and regret the investment. The Rotex 150 sander, however, is worth it. I have used mine from rough sanding/material removal of extremely hardwoods such as white oak, to polishing furniture and even soapstone. The stiff pad attachment will leave a FLAT surface in woods that contain both soft and hard grains (such as Fir and Pine). Another great feature is the rim guard which allows you to sand right up to the edge (for instance the inside of a cabinet or baseboard) without scarring these perpendicular surfaces. The sander has two settings - circular and random orbit. The first will remove stock almost as quickly as a belt sander and not leave swirl marks. Random orbit leaves a perfectly smooth finish. To truly reap the benefits of this sander you should attach it to a vacuum. Of course the Festool Vac is designed for it and is what I have. Not only does this extend the life of the sanding discs, sanding is virtually dust free. Finally, the sander has an overload shut-off. There have been times I've worked in the sun. The shut-off detects when the motor is getting too hot and protects your investment. It takes a lot to push it to that and on the rare occasions this has happened, the sander powered up just the same as new. This is the one Festool tool for which I'd like to have two.
Excellent heavy duty finishing sander.

I was surprised by how much smoother the surface was for the same grit sandpaper compared to my other sanders. I have big hands and so this machine is very comfortable for me, but if you are smaller, I'd recommend the smaller size model. I was surprised at just how large the unit was when I opened the box. Dust collection is superlative, really controls the fine dust getting into the air. For quick material removal I still use my Makita belt sander.
