Two rail guides are connected with a micrometer dial marked with 1/10mm increments, just like the router depth gage. One guide is fixed on the rail, while the other guide grips the rods. Turning the dial varies the spacing between guides, which moves the attached router toward or away from the guide rail. There is about 5/10mm of backlash in the dial, which cannot be changed, so accuracy is difficult to attain. The aftermarket product from MicroFence is a much better solution.
