Product Information

Installing solid brass threaded inserts in hardwoods like maple, white oak, or cherry, has always required experimentation to determine just the right pilot hole size to avoid folding over the external threads. The special threads on these solid steel inserts have a beefy cross section designed for use in hardwoods. Just drill the prescribed pilot hole, and with rare exception, the insert will screw right in. Drive these with a metric sized hex wrench, or the appropriately sized driver to install. Made in Germany.

Comments about 5/16-18 Steel Threaded Inserts:

The oak table set we bought @ Nebraska Furniture Mart years ago finally started having some loose legs. Come to find out the manufacturer used Soft wood inserts instead of Hard wood inserts. I did some searching and these are the perfect fix. No more loose legs. SOLID now.. And these will not break like the cheap zinc cast inserts orginally used.

Perfect for replacing carriage bolts with machine screws in older furniture where the wood has dried too much to hold the original bolts. Used to repair the leg mounts on a large mahogany dining table. 5/16 thread is a good choice. 3/8 would be useful too.

Comments about 5/16-18 Steel Threaded Inserts:

Purchased these threaded inserts to mount a workbench top to my bench. Very nice well built product. The only probelm I had was getting them to screw in straight. I used a 8mm ball head hex wrench, that was probably the problem. If I used a straight hex head tool, it would have worked better. Other than that they worked great and I would highly recommend them.

My expensive dining room table set came with cheap inserts to bolt the legs on and soon they were all starting to break and strip out. These steel inserts went in tight and fixed the chairs far better than the original inserts. Price is better than others and shipping was cheap and fast.
