Comments about Dayton 10'' Bench Drill Press:

I admit that I did not expect a high caliber woodworking machine at the listed price, and am real happy to have taken the 10% discount. Will do light boring for woodworking & will move easily in the shop & in the field for best advantage. Vertical run for drilling seems consistent & true, which is the real key feature required of this tool. However a few complaints: [...] My biggest complaint is the work table. Unlike what the McFeely's write up says, this table is not at all machined flat. From corner to corner over the hump in the middle the run out is 1/16" in one corner & 1/32" + in the other corner. The edges were sharp & jagged enough to require some file work. The table top is not square, nor are its edges. Quite a poor work surface. The base however is very nice & flatter than the table. It appears that the components were made in separate factories.3) The table to post clamp is maxed out to keep the table from moving on the post. I will need to modify this feature or I will eventually break it as I try to tighten the two together. Surely can't have the table move down or around in the middle of a drilling operation. In summary - I'm glad I didn't pay full price. The basic machine is good for light work & as expected – will be more accurate & safer than hand drilling in many applications. I was hoping that a McFeely's offered machine would be better than others.
