Who says everything has to be made overseas? North American manufacturing is alive & well with the good folks at OMS Tool Company in Vancouver, BC. Their award-winning Dowelmax ® can be used to create wood joints that are both strong and accurate and in less than five minutes for most applications. Even better is the fact that this tool is made of aircraft-grade and CNC-machined aluminum with black-oxide coated, steel drill guides & machined-hard, yellow brass adjustment nuts and screws. In other words, you’re not going to find any cheap plastics on this tank. In a world of disposable goods, this is a legacy tool fit for passing down to generations to come.
The Dowelmax uses a deceptively simple method to complete virtually any joint configuration. Check marks are machined on the jig to guide placement of your wood pieces. Simply mark your references faces and surfaces to be drilled (no measurements are necessary) and then position your Dowelmax to the 1st work-piece with the check marks on the piece to the check marks on the Dowelmax and drill your required number of holes. Repeat that sequence with the 2nd work-piece and you’re then ready to glue and insert fluted dowels into the closely spaced and accurately aligned holes. An optional accessory package includes five ¼” drill guides, 1/8 inch spacer plate and screws, ¼” distance gauge base and the HSS drill bit, collar stop and wrench needed to work with ¼” dowels in narrow ½” or 5/8” stock. Dowel pins are also available in 3/8” x 1-1/2” and 2” and in ¼” x 1-1/2” (bags of 100).
