Of all the hand tools available, there may be none more satisfying than a hand plane. From the 1st curl of wood to the final, finished surface, a hand plane just about typifies all that is right and noble about wood-working. Footprint planes include smart features like a grey cast iron body for long life and a stained, Beechwood handle that feels right and gives comfortable and positive control. The most popular, versatile bench plane in the Footprint line-up. 9-3/4" x 2".
Note: Although these are part of the Footprint line, they are made in China due to the cost of construction.

Comments about Smooth Plane:
Cabinet shop, daily use. Do not try to use this plane right out-of-the-box. Not only does the blade NEED to be sharpened, but also all the mating surfaces need to be "trued-up" and honed. This process will take several hours to finish. Blade adjustment is a little sloppy, so it takes several tries to get it right. After all above is done, this is a good product and it does what it supposed to do. Expect paper thin shavings. On the positive side, once "set up," this plane will perform right along with $300 planes. One good option would be to purchase an after market blade with better steel & heavier thickness. The name "Footprint" is a little goofy. I almost didn't buy it because of the name.
