The Natural Joinery Advantage
You may have guessed it already but we’re big on screws. Yet, even the folks at the Square Drive Screw Authority have to admit there are times in which natural joinery just looks better. The problem has been that natural joinery can take a lot longer to accomplish so compromises, such as screw caps, have been around for some time.

The Miller Dowel system comes close to finally bridging the gap between the convenience and strength of screws and the aesthetic joy and superior material interaction of natural joinery. The key to the system resides with the patented, stepped design of the Miller Dowel and its corresponding drill bit. Unlike other pin dowels, the Miller system allows you to insert its dowels about 75% before you ever need to hammer it flush. The result is that a Miller Dowel is easy to drive. In fact, the entire process is simple.

How To Use
To use the Miller Dowel system, you simply align and secure the wood pieces to be joined. Next, you drill the stepped pilot hole for your chosen dowel using the Miller Dowel Drill Bit. Spread a small amount of glue on the ribbed sections of your dowel and insert it so that it drops roughly 2/3rds of its length. It will self-center with the 2nd board even if you haven’t preglued. Tap the dowel until it’s fully inserted and trim or sand the raised portion. It’s that easy to use, and by doing so, you avoid the risks of rot, rust, nail pops or splitting!
